Analytic Aspects of Problems
in Riemannian Geometry

Brest , France
9-13 May 2005

An international conference devoted to analytic aspects of problems in Riemannian geometry will be held at the Centre de la Mer de l'Aber Wrac'h, under the auspices of the Department of Mathematics of the University of Bretagne Occidentale.

The interface between analysis and geometry has proved to be one of the most active and fruitful areas of modern mathematical research. It combines difficult analytic argument with the faith of our intuition and has led to some spectacular breakthroughs. Problems can often be formulated in a variational framework and can be aproached by either the direct method, or by an evolution equation - the heat flow method.

We welcome specialists in other related subjects who may gain or contribute ideas as well as young researchers.

LOCATION

The conference will take place at the Centre de la Mer de l'Aber Wrac'h . This is a beautiful location overlooking the sea in the `Pays des Abers' near Brest in the heart of Brittany. The centre boasts a panoramic restaurant, a large lecture hall, as well as computer facilities with internet access. Accomodation is on-site, with each room having its own facilities. There is a hotel nearby which has a limited number of self-contained family flats. Participants will have the opportunity to sample local seafood in some fine resaurants and if they wish, to participate in nautical recreation activities.
